This is always the difficult path we must take towards the end of a friend’s life. We want to be just as helpful and supportive during this time, as we have been throughout their life.

When should I consider pet euthanasia?

Most people begin to think about euthanasia when their pet is suffering or has a terminal illness. Knowing when to make that choice is very difficult and personal. We will be available to help you with this decision and review the details of the process. An absolute fact is when you make these decisions out of love, there is no such thing as wrong.

What is the process for cat euthanasia?

Most cats will receive some sedation before the injection to reduce any anxiety your cat may be feeling in-clinic. The medication to perform the euthanasia will be given in a vein. We at Southampton Pet Hospital try to make the whole process as smooth and pain-free as possible, for both the pet and owner. Please ask if you have any concerns.

Do you do house calls?

We will do everything in our power to make your cat’s final time with you as compassionate as possible. Whether the euthanasia is done at home, sprinkling tobacco on your cat or collecting a lock of hair; this process is about your cat and the relationship you share. Naturally, there is some timing limitation with home visits, but early discussions will help with organization.

Can you stay with your cat during euthanasia?

Yes absolutely you can stay with them! We understand it is a difficult time for you, and we want you to have as much time as you need to say your goodbyes.

What is the cost of at home or in clinic euthanasia?

Cost is based on a few factors. Mileage is the most common variable. Home visits and special cremation requests also factor into pricing. Again, during this time, we will answer any question you may have.

Do you offer pet bereavement support service?

Unfortunately, we do not have grief counselling training. We do have ears, hearts and many years of pet experience. If you are struggling at any time, feel free to call and we will try to find help.
